PRINCIPAL, PROPERTY TAX

Our client, Ryan, is seeking a Principal, Property Tax to join their high-performing team in Montreal.

You will lead and mentor a team of talented professionals, while fostering client relationships that will drive business growth. We are looking for someone who shares in Ryan’s client-centric approach to continue to build their practice above their competitive landscape.

  • University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Real Estate, Business Management, or other degrees with an MBA, MST, or JD required.
  • Certified member of the Ordre des évaluateurs agréés du Québec (OEAQ) – An important asset
  • Should maintain professional designations such as Certified Member of the Institute (CMI), Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM), or equivalent, and keep active in professional organizations at a local and national level.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of property tax-related experience required
  • Excellent knowledge of French and good knowledge of English (both written and spoken)

Description

Due to demand and growth, Ryan is seeking a Principal for their Montreal-based Property Tax Practice, who will play a pivotal role as part of the overall Canadian property tax leadership team.

You will lead and mentor a team of talented professionals, while fostering client relationships that will drive business growth. We are looking for someone who shares in Ryan’s client-centric approach to continue to build their practice above their competitive landscape.

The Principal oversees directors to provide property tax consulting and appeal services for assigned clients. He actively pursues new client opportunities and maintains existing client relationships. This includes enforcing policies, standards, and guidelines, researching tax issues, overseeing valuations of real property, negotiating settlements related to assessment reduction, and the preparation and presentation of assessment appeals and supporting litigation.

He is responsible for creating positive team member experiences, which lead to excellent client service and drive revenue and profit for the Firm. Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates superior knowledge in assessment review, valuation, and industry expertise.
  • Actively involved in the business development of new clients, maintaining existing clients, and focusing on cross-selling efforts while fostering and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Builds eminence by leading internal training and speaking at external events and writing articles.
  • Participates actively in professional organizations and identifies networking opportunities to enhance the firm’s visibility.
  • Manages and monitors all aspects of the annual property tax cycle for assigned real property portfolios.
  • Creates a positive team experience, supporting the growth and development of a high-performing team.
  • Work with the other partners to set the strategy of the overall practice and take the lead in growing the Quebec region.
  • Ensures workload is properly distributed among team members and holds team members accountable for completion of assigned projects.
  • Attends hearings, settlement conferences, and negotiations through settlement.
  • Identify initiatives to improve service delivery and profitability.
  • Stay current on industry trends and regulatory changes.
  • Assists in the general operations and administration of the practice.
  • Schedules, coordinates, leads all status calls/client presentations and consistently updates them on recent appeal activities and status of engagements.
  • Reviews and manages client contract terms, scope of services, and fees.
  • Manages client billing and ensures timely collection of receivables (less than 90 days).
  • Demonstrates ownership of individual engagements/clients.
  • Supervises and provides guidance to the team and acts as a mentor to new managers.
  • Ensures team compliance with Firm policies, practice guidelines, and standards.
  • Gives timely performance feedback to team members and addresses, documents, and escalates performance issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications

Education

  • University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Real Estate, Business Management, or other degrees with an MBA, MST, or JD required.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of property tax-related experience required

Key Competencies

  • Great knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to property tax assessments
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet navigation and research
  • Excellent knowledge of French and good knowledge of English (both written and spoken)
  • Valid driver’s license required
