Our Client, CargoM, is looking for an Executive Director to join their team.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading and ensuring the sustainability of the Logistics and Transportation Metropolitan Cluster of Montreal under the direction of the Board of Directors. CargoM’s permanent staff consists of an Executive Director, two (2) project managers, and one (1) executive assistant.
- University degree in a relevant discipline
- Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in an executive director role
- Knowledge of how an NPO operates
- French and English, spoken and written

About CargoM
As part of Greater Montreal’s economic development strategy, CargoM was launched in 2012 to support the industrial clusters established in recent years.
CargoM brings together all the companies and stakeholders in the logistics and transport sector to coordinate its development. More specifically, CargoM’s mission is to undertake important projects, publicize Montreal’s position as a hub for freight transportation, ensure the sharing of leading-edge practices and technologies, and promote the attraction and retention of workers in the industry’s various sectors.
The Cluster is made up of industrial, institutional, associative, and governmental members. The Cluster’s governance is made up of the Members’ Assembly, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Committee. Industry members represent the following sectors: air transport, rail transport, maritime transport and terminals, exporters importers, committees and associations, road transport, and logistics intermediaries, administrations and shared infrastructure, and educational and research institutions.

Brief Description
The Executive Director is responsible for leading and ensuring the sustainability of the Logistics and Transportation Metropolitan Cluster of Montreal under the direction of the Board of Directors. CargoM’s permanent staff consists of an Executive Director, two (2) project managers, and one (1) executive assistant.
Main Tasks & Responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
- Develop the Cluster’s strategic plan and recommend it to the Board of Directors
- Facilitate consultation among the key players in this sector, through committees and project implementation teams
- Establish partnerships with key players in economic development, both at government level and in the private enterprise and research sectors
- Raise the profile of the Cluster to emphasize Montreal’s intermodality and the economic benefits it offers
Governance
- Manage the rules of governance approved by the Board of Directors
- Develop, update, and implement the three-year strategic plan
Permanence
- Ensure the smooth running of The Cluster’s permanent staff, recruit employees as needed, and develop their skills
- Manage finances (budgets, financial statements)
- Ensure the smooth running of the projects set out in the business plan
Communications
- Ensure the smooth operation of communication tools (websites, newsletter, Intermodal, etc.)
- Communicate with public bodies inside and outside the Cluster
- Represent the Cluster in dealings with government authorities
Funding
- Monitor funding rules for different categories of members
- Contribute to the recruitment of new members
- Structure fund-raising activities and contribute to their success
- Secure funding for the Cluster through subsidies, membership fees, and sponsorships
- Prepare periodic activity reports for the Cluster’s financial partners
Required Qualifications
Education
- University degree in a relevant discipline
Professional Experience
- Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant experience in an executive director role
- Having prior experience working with a Board of Directors is considered an asset

- Knowledge of how an NPO operates
- French and English, spoken and written
