Our client, the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation, is looking for a Director of Finance and Administration who will join a team made up of dedicated professionals who work hand in hand with the Institute to bring innovative projects to life.

The Director will report directly to the PDG and participate in the meetings of the audit, investment, joint committee, executive committee and board of directors meetings.

  • Possibility of a work schedule of 3 or 4 days/week
  • Hold a recognized accounting designation (CPA)
  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in similar functions
  • Good knowledge of the philanthropic community, interest in working there and in being associated with the mission of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation
  • Knowledge of the software Acomba, an asset
  • Bilingualism both oral and written

Brief Description

Reporting to the PDG, the selected candidate will be responsible for the planning, management, and control of all of the following functions: budget, accounting, financial statements, cash management and bank accounts, payment of accounts, grants, placements, human resources support, remuneration and social benefits and office equipment and supplies according to the policies in force. This person will participate in the meetings of the audit, investment committees, the joint committee, the executive committee as well as those of the board of directors.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, preparation, and control of the annual budget and manage the allocation process of all operational expenses;
  • Supervise the recording of accounting operations in the accounting books or appropriate registers and coordinate the development and updating of computerized accounting systems;
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and analyze deviations from budget forecasts and reports required by the different audit committees;
  • Collaborate with the firm of external auditors selected by the board of directors;
  • Coordinate the management of liquidity and bank accounts by maximizing the return on funds;
  • Supervise the process of payment of accounts payable, approve each payment, and approval of transfers to suppliers according to established standards;
  • Coordinate activities related to the annual granting of grants to the ICM, the control, and recording of grants paid, and the preparation of reports;
  • Oversee accounting and investment control activities for all funds;
  • Monitor the reconciliation and analysis of the lists provided by the custodian and the investment manager monthly and ensure their compliance;
  • Supervise activities related to human resources management, compensation, and social benefits programs (overtime, sick days, social and statutory holidays, etc.);
  • Supervise the management of office equipment and supplies and ensure that the equipment necessary for the proper functioning of the organization is obtained;
  • Collaborate, through their knowledge of the tax plan, in the development of new sources of funding for the organization and support the employees of the Foundation on the tax level about the issuance of charitable donation receipts to donors.

 

Qualifications Required


Formation

  • Hold a University Degree
  • Hold a recognized accounting designation (CPA)

Professional experience

  • Have a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience in similar functions
  • Good knowledge of the philanthropic community, interest in working there and in being associated with the mission of the Montreal Heart Institute Foundation

Key Competencies

  • Proficiency with the Office Suite
  • Knowledge of the software Acomba, an asset
  • Bilingualism both oral and written
