Brief Description
Under the Vice President of Finance & Administration, the Controller manages the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounting, as well as building and developing a strong team comprised of 1 assistant controller, 4 in accounts payable, and 1 analyst.
This position is responsible for safeguarding assets and ensuring the accurate and timely recording of all transactions through the implementation of controls and checks across all departments.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the overall direction of the Accounting Department including accounts payable, and GL team through month-end and year-end close processes, as well as ensuring proper internal controls.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and training to the accounting team.
- Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Develop, improve, and issue timely monthly financial records.
- Perform ad hoc P&L variance analysis, as required.
- Advise the management team on strategies to decrease or handle expenses.
- Complete budget schedules. This involves active participation in the functional departments’ process including exploring and analyzing proposed strategies and initiatives with the department’s management.
- Supervise the inventory and ensure appropriate inventory auditing
- Interface with outside audit firms and government audits.
- Comply with federal, provincial, and local legal requirements and tax filings and keep current with changes; enforce adherence to requirements; file financial reports; and advise management on needed actions.
- Interface with import and export customs brokers.
- Special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Training
- Undergraduate business degree.
- CPA Accounting designation.
Professional Experience
- 3 to 5 years of related experience at a manager level and within a manufacturing environment.
- ERP implementation and/ or to AS400 or similar system (an asset)
